• Special step adapters for pressure testing coolant-cooled components with smaller connections, allowing for separate testing from the rest of the cooling system.
  
• Diagnosing such components often cannot be definitively achieved by pressure testing at the coolant expansion tank.
• Especially in cases of slow coolant loss that is not externally visible, the coolant-cooled exhaust gas recirculation cooler, the charge air cooler, and the transmission oil cooler should also be considered in addition to the affected component.
• Pressure testing is performed using these step adapters, while the opposite end is sealed with hose clamp pliers or hose clamps (see additional tools).
• The step adapters have a connection nipple compatible with our coolant pressure testing kits or pumps.
  Specific applications are described in the VAG repair manual, but are of course universally applicable to all vehicles.
• Application example / test values: (Reference: 2.0L BiTDI engine code DAUA, VW Transporter / Crafter)
  
  • Check the exhaust gas recirculation cooler for leaks:
    
    • The thinner hose of the EGR cooler is clamped off using hose clamps (part no. 117912). For initial testing, the front hose (towards the coolant pump) can also be clamped off. These hoses are connected by a pipe.
    • Disconnect the EGR cooler inlet hose only from the coolant pipe (leave it on the EGR module) and close it with the appropriate test adapter and hose clamp.
    • Build up an overpressure of approximately 2 bar using a coolant pressure testing pump.
    • The overpressure must not drop by more than 0.2 bar within 10 minutes.
